This situation is generally called glue gelling water issue and most often occurs when the temperature is too high in summer. There are many reasons for the issue, such as the quality of the product itself, the temperature environment, and improper glue mixing operations.

The first reason is that adding too much water.

In summer day when the temperature is high, you can obviously feel that the glue will dry faster than before during construction. Therefore, in order to delay the drying time of sticky rice glue, some masters will increase the amount of water when adjusting the glue, which will inevitably result in excessive water mixing.

Second reason is bacterial decomposition.
Here we first talk about the decomposition of external bacteria. External bacteria may come from the construction environment on site, the water source used, mixing tools, containers, etc.

When sticky rice glue is mixed with external bacteria, the properties (viscosity value) of the glue will be decomposed, so that the fluidity will increase, and the phenomenon of water will appear. Especially in summer, the air also contains a lot of microorganisms, and the speed of turning water will increase significantly, generally around 24 hours. Therefore, if the construction master does not clean the glue barrel and construction tools in time, or uses an unclean water source, the remaining glue will easily breed bacteria, and it will be a hidden danger for the next time glue mixing.

The third reason is internal fermentation.

 The sticky rice glue itself is an organic material, and the natural plant starch in the rice glue will become a breeding ground and nourishment for bacteria.

Internal fermentation is easy to occur in a high temperature and high humidity environment, especially in summer, the activity of bacteria and mold is enhanced, and the reproduction ability is improved. The natural plant elements in sticky rice glue provide abundant nutrients for the bacteria, causing the bacteria to multiply and convert into amylase to make the glue thinner and then turn water.

 In order to avoid glue gelled into water, below tips should be paid attention:

1. The construction water source is dedicated. Carefully clean the construction tools and the glue bucket before mixing the glue to ensure that the tools are clean and regularly use pasteurized water to disinfect them to avoid the breeding of bacterial residues.

2.Do not store the glue for too long in high temperature weather. Try to mix the glue on the same day as possible. The sticky rice glue that is not used up on the day should be covered and protected to avoid bacteria and dust. The storage temperature is about 5-23 degrees Celsius in a well-ventilated place. Mix it with the newly mixed glue the next day.

3. Add appropriate amount of water to mix the glue, do not change the amount of water, avoid using excessive water; use thick glue thin coating during construction, which can not only ensure the construction quality, but also prevent the separation of the glue.

 Freezing problem of sticky rice glue

Somebody says that, the temperature is too low in winter, and the sticky rice glue used for pasting wallpaper is frozen. Can it still be used?

The answer is yes. 

But if it needs to be mixed only after it is thawed, Xiaojia strongly recommends for you: Garefu antifreeze sticky rice glue has good freeze and dry resistance, and the freeze-thaw cycle is up to 8 times. The lowest temperature of different brands’ Sticky rice glue is not same, but the performance may be affected, and different brands have different effects. But if it’s a few degrees below zero, normal glutinous rice glue is not recommended.

The frozen sticky rice glue only can be mixed after thawing, soak it in boiling water to soften it before using, and then adjust the glue according to the normal procedure. It does not matter if the wallpaper primer is slightly frozen.

Can I paste wallpaper in cold weather of winter?
As long as the indoor temperature is higher than 10 degrees Celsius,it is OK to paste wallpaper. Wallpaper wall cloth should be dried naturally to keep indoor humidity high. Never turn on the air conditioner or open doors and windows for ventilation. In order to prevent the wallpaper from drying too quickly and too quickly, as it is easy to cause the wallpaper to open or shrink, wait 2-3 days until the wallpaper is completely dry to open doors and windows for ventilation.

It is not recommended to do construction in weather which temperature is lower 7 degrees Celsius.

Slow moisture absorption on the wall is not good for wall coverings In cold weather. The indoor temperature is below zero and it is not suitable for the construction using water.

Indoor construction must be done when temperature is above zero. Because the construction accessories will affect the paste effect below zero, and the wallpaper viscosity effect will also fail. If the temperature is normal during the day and the temperature is low at night, you can turn on the lights indoors to keep the indoor temperature unaffected.

After the wallpaper is pasted, do not open the doors and windows to quickly dry the wall like in summer day. This will easily cause the newly pasted wallpaper to be dried by the "draft", which will lose water and deform. You must close the doors and windows, keep warm, moisturize, and let the wallpaper Dry naturally in the shade, otherwise it will cause warp and bulge.
